SE Section - Visit to the Gatwick Aviation Museum

GAM-5

On Saturday 28th February, Owen Swinerd had organised a visit tot he Gatwick Aviation Museum, situated close to the end of the western end of Gatwick Airport. Just for a change this year it wasn't raining and the sun tried to come out. A very fascinating museum.

The museum houses a collection of aircraft and engines from the golden age of British aircraft manufacturing. From the end of WW2 until the 1970s.

Founded in 1987, Gatwick Aviation Museum began as a private collection acquired by local Surrey businessman Peter Vallance. Peter found the people, development and stories within the world of aviation and heritage fascinating. It was in 1990 that he decided to establish the Museum as a Charity and welcome the public inside. His aim was clear - to share his passion with the community through the Museum that he created to inspire future generations.

As well as interesting, historic and innovative aircraft of their day on display there is hundreds of model aircraft and instrument panels to discover as well as a variety of fascinating aviation memorabilia.
