Sat 27th | Wales: A GUIDED HISTORIC WALK AROUND ABERGAVENNY We gather from 11.00 onwards in our arranged car park behind the Solicitors’ office, ‘STAR LEGAL’. This is near the Bus Station and opposite ‘Aldi’. It is our intention to set off at 11.30 on this walking route of ‘Trails and Tales’ which goes past the principal places of historic interest; it will be led by our venerable AOC Member, Rob Lloyd. Dates start from Roman times and continue into more recent years. We shall visit St. Mary’s Church, it is pre - Norman and has some nationally remarkable elements including the famous ‘Jesse Tree’. Near to that is the ancient ‘Tythe Barn’, which now is the Priory Centre with an amazing tapestry and other exhibition elements. (Refreshments may be taken here). We can amble around, and Rob will identify more points of interest as we go. In the immediate area there is the excellent small Museum, within the Castle Grounds. On Saturdays, a market in their fine old ‘Town Hall’ takes place, which is also on the route. These venues will provide plenty of interest should it be foul weather. A relaxed lunch has been arranged at the ‘Kings Arms’ for about 1.00. Thereafter, there is the choice to leave or do more. If you are interested, please advise us beforehand, to give us ideas of numbers and to enable us to give the ‘Kings Arms’ an indication of lunch covers required. We hope you will enjoy this unusual AOC activity. Please contact Ann or Hugh Bradnum by ‘phone: (029) 2075 7494 or by e-mail at: hbradnum@btinternet.com. |

Tue 8th to Fri 11th | East Anglia: Autumn break at Seckford Hall Hotel and Spa, near Woodbridge, Suffolk This is open to all Members. Having greatly enjoyed 7 annual visits to the Sea Marge Hotel, Overstrand, our Autumn break venue is changing in 2024 to Seckford Hall which is an Elizabethan mansion sitting in its own private valley in an area of outstanding natural beauty, surrounded by ancient wetlands and historic towns. It is the perfect gateway to explore the Suffolk coast and heathlands. The hotel has 19 standard double rooms and 8 superior doubles. All 19 standard rooms have been reserved. Superior rooms can be booked independently on a first come first served basis. Contact details for the hotel are: Reception telephone No: 01394 385678 and email: reception@seckford.co.uk. Cost for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast (includes 3 course evening meal) is as follows: Standard Double £755 (single occupancy: £567.50) and Superior Double £815 (single occupancy: £627.50). For Standard rooms only, a £50 deposit has already been paid by the EA Section so this must be paid into the EA Section bank account (details below) when rooms are booked and not to the hotel. Please mention Alvis when booking rooms. Booking other class of rooms - Superior etc. requires you to pay the deposit to the Hotel, as these are not reserved for Alvis owners. Early booking is advised. Please notify your booking to Peter Barratt (Section Treasurer) by email at eastangliaalvis@gmail.com as this will enable us to correctly allocate deposits. The hotel has no lift but it has 5 ground floor rooms (3 Standard and 2 Superior). If you require a ground floor room, please inform Reception at the time of booking. The Hotel is dog friendly but this must be discussed with Reception at time of booking.
