Sat 27th Wales: A GUIDED HISTORIC WALK AROUND ABERGAVENNY
We gather from 11.00 onwards in our arranged car park behind the Solicitors’ office, ‘STAR LEGAL’. This is near the Bus Station and opposite ‘Aldi’. It is our intention to set off at 11.30 on this walking route of ‘Trails and Tales’ which goes past the principal places of historic interest; it will be led by our venerable AOC Member, Rob Lloyd. Dates start from Roman times and continue into more recent years.
We shall visit St. Mary’s Church, it is pre - Norman and has some nationally remarkable elements including the famous ‘Jesse Tree’. Near to that is the ancient ‘Tythe Barn’, which now is the Priory Centre with an amazing tapestry and other exhibition elements. (Refreshments may be taken here).
We can amble around, and Rob will identify more points of interest as we go. In the immediate area there is the excellent small Museum, within the Castle Grounds. On Saturdays, a market in their fine old ‘Town Hall’ takes place, which is also on the route. These venues will provide plenty of interest should it be foul weather.
A relaxed lunch has been arranged at the ‘Kings Arms’ for about 1.00. Thereafter, there is the choice to leave or do more.
If you are interested, please advise us beforehand, to give us ideas of numbers and to enable us to give the ‘Kings Arms’ an indication of lunch covers required. We hope you will enjoy this unusual AOC activity.

All Sections: International Alvis Weekend

International weekend is returning to the South East once again for the next three years. The first one is taking place in the stunning grounds of the Chilston Park Hotel, Maidstone. The venue was chosen partly due to having easy access to major roads as well as to the continent, only just over 30 miles from Dover.

“Throughout its history, Chilston Park Hotel has been home to eminent politicians, writers, lords and viscounts. Today, this award-winning 4 Red Star country house hotel in Kent is revered for its unique styling and historic antiques, some as old as the 17th-century manor house itself. A classic British country house hotel conveniently located in rural Kent, Chilston Park Hotel boasts an abundance of style and charm”

The AOC will have exclusive use of the hotel and its 50 rooms. An overspill hotel nearer Maidstone has been arranged, transport will be laid on for the evening’s events taking place at the Chilston Park Hotel. The option to extend your stay at the hotel has been arranged so that you can explore the delights that East Kent has to offer. The details for booking either the whole weekend or just part of it can be found in the booking forms via the bulletin or the calendar.

Sun 16th Antrobus Run
The Big Boys Breakfast Team will once again be providing breakfast at Antrobus Village Hall from 8am to 10am. So we will start the Run between 10 and 10.15am. I will send out a booking form for this in a while. The run will take roughly 2 hrs, depending on your speed and ability to follow the steps (!!), to reach The Fishpool Inn in Delamere. This is a large pub where you can stop for lunch, details are below. Or you can simply follow the remaining instructions back to Antrobus Village Hall and picnic outside there.
The Fishpool can seat a large number of people inside and there are outside tables. It it is ESSENTIAL to book, which you can do online on their website. Sunday is their busiest day and if you don't book they are unlikely to be able to accommodate you. The website and booking link are found at www.fishpoolinn.co.uk. You book using their online system, which will spread the bookings out over a period to give the kitchen enough time. So you may wish to sprint and book at 12.15 or have a later start and more leisurely drive, perhaps stopping midway for a coffee, and take a later lunch booking. Please contact Tim Brown if you are interested.
