The middle of October sees the North Yorkshire Moors town of Pickering taken back to the 1940s as thousands of enthusiasts in period costume descend.
The event extends along the stations of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway towards Whitby. The AOC contingent of Blundells, Blyths, Salters and Peter Hepworth were stationed at Grosmont adjacent to a Spitfire which just happened to have dropped in for the weekend.
A visit by rail down the line to Levisham revealed that it had become the German-occupied French village of Le Visham with German troops out in force on the platforms...... not to mention a Messerschmidt that had landed nearby. Cafe Rene naturally featured Marlene Dietrich. Altogether a wonderful weekend with real atmosphere: one that the Northern Section intends to repeat next year (Saturday/Sunday 13/14 October 2018).
