MIDLAND: Yew Tree Cauldon Low 50th Anniversary of this 2nd Tuesday 7-30pm evening meeting, started all those years ago by our old friend Ernest Shenton (Mr ALVIS)

MIDLAND, SOUTH WEST AND WALES: A O C Members 3rd TRI – SECTION LUNCH 3rd combined 3 Section Informal Lunch Gathering at The Woodlands Tavern, Llanvair Discoed, near Chepstow, NP16 6LX – to meet at 12 noon onwards. This Tavern is based in the heart of the Best Kept Village of Gwent current and past, Llanvair Discoed. It is very close to the historical excavated Roman fortress town of Caerwent, and set at the foot of Gray Hill, Wentwood forest and reservoir. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The hosts are Chef Keith, wife Sue and their friendly team. They offer locally sourced food. This is a wonderful and relaxed opportunity to make new Alvis friends or to meet up with existing ones. Everybody is welcome, with or without an Alvis. Confirmation of attendance will be appreciated as numbers are quite likely to be limited.

SCOTTISH: Aberdeenshire Drive-it-day. We will start from Redgarth, Oldmeldrum, meeting at 9am for bacon rolls and coffee - £6 a head. Lunch will be at The Lodge on the Loch, Aboyne. Soup and a sandwich and coffee will be £9.50 a head.

SOUTH WEST: Drive-it-day. Start from Alverton Manor Hotel, TRURO TR1 1ZQ, coffee available. Panoramic drive down the North Coast, pub lunch-stop, back via Penzance, and finish , for tea at Clowance Park, nr.Camborne, TR14 0PT.

NORTHERN: Drive it day lunch 3 start venues, all merging together for lunch at the Sparrow Hawk Hotel, Wheatley Lane Rd, Fence, Burnley. BB12 9QG. North Lancs and the Lakes. 11.30am, Shackleton’s Garden Centre, Chatburn, Nr Clitheroe. BB7 4JY - South Lancs and Cheshire. Start time and venue to be confirmed. Yorkshire. Sunday 22nd April
SOUTH EAST: Drive It Day Following the success of last year's Drive it Day run, we will again tour the beautiful Ashdown Forrest region of Sussex. The start and finish venue will be at the Red Lion Chelwood Gate. The run will be approximately 45 miles, with a number of places of interest en route. Bacon butties and coffee will be available at the start and lunch can be booked, for the finish. Entries should be made by 15th April.

Thursday 26th April
MIDLAND: Canal Trip from Whalley Bridge, Derbyshire Meeting at 11am at Whalley Bridge Canal Basin and casting off at noon, a 3 hour narrow boat, round trip via Bugsworth Basin and New Mills, including a hotpot lunch, apple pie and cream or custard and tea and coffee, with bar on board. Price approx. £20.00 per person, pay on the day.

Sunday 29th April
SOUTH EAST: We will enjoy a co-promotion run organised jointly by the SE Section of the AOC and the UK Cobra Car Club, over an attractive rural route of approximately 54 miles, within the Weald of Sussex and the South Downs National Park. Assembly is from 9.00am at: The Crown Inn, Worthing Road, Dial Post, Nr Horsham, West Sussex RH13 8NH, where their famed bacon butties and coffee will be available. Entrants will be required to ‘sign in’; the first car away will be scheduled for 10.30am and all cars will have left by 11.00am. The run will finish back at The Crown Inn, where lunch/refreshment will be available. Lunch must be pre-ordered when signing in and before starting the run.

Sunday 22nd April – The MAC Classic We are running our bi-annual classic tour on the 22nd April 2018. It consists of a 100 mile run from one of 4 start points finishing at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb with the opportunity to drive up the hill climb at the end of the day. This event is open to all Sports and Classic Car owners, vintage and classics are all eligible.

Friday 11th to Sunday 13th May
INTERNATIONAL: International Alvis Weekend 2018 - at the Castle Green Hotel, Castle Green Rd, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 6RG and Sunday at Leighton Hall, Carnforth, Lancashire. LA5 9ST The second of three years, that your Northern Committee are responsible for hosting this Major International Event. Please give them all the support you can.

Sunday 27th to Monday 28th May
WALES: The Abergavenny Steam & Vintage Rally We have space for a prominent display of Alvis cars at the top of the field on both days. This is a well attended show in the centre of town, with a wide variety of arena events, trade stands, and this year includes displays by an award winning team of heavy horses.

Monday 28th May
SOUTH EAST: Staplefield Village Fete and Classic Car Show This classic car show is held on the village green adjacent to the Jolly Tanners (RH17 6EF, on the B2114 south of Handcross), where we hold a monthly N&N. The AOC will have a reserved area in order to display our cars together. Arrival time is 10.30am, with a finish time of about 4.00pm. Entrance is free, but donations to a local charity are appreciated. Bring a picnic or lunch may be booked in advance at the Jolly Tanners.


Sunday 20th May – Prescot Breakfast Club

Sunday 20th May Please would you include in the club calendar an invitation to our event "THE BUBBLETON RUN which will be a tour of South Pembrokeshire to raise money for LATCH- a charity that supports children receiving treatment for cancer. The tour will take place on Sunday 20th May from BUBBLETON FARM SHOP, PENALLY,TENBY SA70 7RY.

Friday 25th to Monday 28th May – APPF Fougeres Rallye 2018 This year’s event is based on one Hotel for the whole rally, with easy access to/from the ferry at St Malo, in addition a discounted fare structure is in place. Commencing Friday 25th May at the lovely seaside spa town of Dinard, just a short drive from St Malo. Lunch is taken and after a scenic drive, ending at Fougeres and your Hotel. In the evening a bus is organised to take you to the communal evening meal in Salle Hermine at Lecousse, so no drink/drive problems. Saturday morning we assemble at Chateau du Bois Guy at Parigne, for a run to the lovely seaside resort of Granville, in the Bay of Mont san Michel. Lunch taken here and guided tours within the town. After a scenic drive along the coast to your Hotel and perhaps a nap ready for the evening Gala dinner, with buses again. Sunday gives you time to catch your breath, public display in the grounds of the Chateau in Fougeres, free choice of eatery at lunchtime, and presentation in the town centre to the general public, with as usual Patrick Rollet’s amazing memory of car and entrants names, all 150, without recourse to notes! The evening dinner is a more relaxed affair, in the restored Convent, les Urbanistes in Fougeres, with most of the local entrants having returned home, Monday morning a drive by the tourist route to the Chateau St Rouerie, for visits, lunch and the end of the Rallye. Saturday 2nd June
SOUTH EAST and EAST ANGLIA: Letchworth Garden City Classic and Vintage Car Club Annual Transport Picnic at Fairclough Hall Farm, Halls Green, Weston, Hertfordshire SG4 7DP. A wonderful day in the rolling North Hertfordshire countryside with plenty of vintage and classic cars on display. It's a great Hertfordshire location (close to the Beds, Cambs and Essex borders), near to Letchworth, the world's first garden city. Arrival at Halls Green will be from 11.00am onwards. Bring your own picnic or visit stalls serving hot and cold food and drinks. Beer and wine stalls and live music are also provided during the day. This is a wonderful, relaxed opportunity to meet new Alvis friends or meet up again with old ones in this superb location, just 4 miles from J9 of the A1(M). The entry fee is £5 per car and confirmation of attendance will be appreciated.

Sunday 3rd June
NORTHERN: Parish Picnic for Petrol heads, St John the Baptist church, Vicarage Lane, Knaresborough. Yorkshire. HG5 9AE - A wonderful afternoon, overlooking the River at Knaresborough with a plentiful bounty of vintage and classic cars. It’s a great base for investigating this historic market town and what it has on offer. Arrive from 12 noon onwards. Bring your own picnic, visit the excellent church café overlooking the River Nidd serving hot sandwiches, homemade cakes or walk up the hill to the Mitre pub or Station café.

Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th June
SOUTH WEST: Alvis Weekend Dorset and the Isle of Purbeck is the setting for our main event of the year, based at the Springfield Country Hotel, near Wareham. There will be an informal gathering on the Friday evening, 8th June then a leisurely Road Run through the spectacular scenery of the area on the Saturday, followed by a slap-up dinner. On Sunday 10th, Athelhampton House will be the venue for South West Alvis Day. This is an outstanding Tudor manor house, with beautiful gardens. Their restaurant has an excellent menu, or you can picnic on the lawns. If you Google ghosts of Dorset, you will find that a Grey Lady is said to inhabit Athelhampton. We anticipate several more on the day, together with a number of older cars belonging to members of the Alvis Register, who will be meeting for their own AGM and annual gathering at the same hotel earlier in the week.

SOUTH EAST: We have arranged an informal visit to the prestigious works of CKL Developments. Founded in 1999, CKL Developments has grown into the world's leading specialist in restoration and race-preparation of Jaguar Sports and Racing Cars of the 1950's and 1960's. We will meet mid to late morning in the works car park: Woodcote, Marley Lane Business Park, Battle, East Sussex TN33 0RE. The visit will be followed by lunch at a nearby hostelry. It is essential to pre-book.

EAST ANGLIA: Section Day The EA Section invites you to attend Section Day at Ickworth House (NT) and gardens near in the village of Horringer close to the A14, 3 miles south of Bury St Edmunds on the A143. Arrive by 9.30 usual Concours and Driving tests. More details to follow.

NORTHERN: Newby Hall Vintage and Classic car Show. Newby Hall, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 5AE. Once again, the Northern Section of the Alvis Owner Club are invited, by The North of England Classic and Pre War Automobile Club, to Yorkshire’s largest one day Vintage and Classic Car Rally.

Sunday 15th July
WALES: The Section day at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, just off the A48 to the South East of Carmarthen, postcode SA32 5HG . This site has been extensively developed over the last 20 years and offers a varied and fascinating range of displays and exhibits….and if there’s a spot of rain? just take cover in the world’s largest single-span glasshouse (100m by 60m). We have been invited to park in the central courtyard. This will be free of charge, but we shall need to arrive in a guided convoy; further detail will follow but it would help us if you would let us know as soon as possible if you plan to come.

MIDLAND: Pre War Prescott (Hillclimb) near Cheltenham is open to all spectators for £25 per car. To drive up the hill complete an entry form on (which has more info and photos). Passengers ride up free! Post war cars are allowed to climb provided they have "flowing wings"- so TA14's and 3 litre TA'- TC's are allowed into "Alvis Avenue" and on up! Fear not! It’s informal untimed friendly fun in first rate facilities raising funds for the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.

NORTHERN: Classics at the Castle, Bodelwyddan Castle, Near Rhyl, North Wales. LL18 5YA - A new venue for this year. As a joint venture with the Welsh Section of the A.O.C. we have been invited to the 9th Classics at the Castle. Taking place at Bodelwyddan Castle near Rhyl. Set in 260 acres of magnificent parkland with the show taking place in front of the castle itself. Concours competition with prizes and throughout the day catering options within the show area.

NORTHERN: Hebden Bridge Vintage and Classic Car Show, Calder Holmes Park, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 8EE. Organised by The Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge, the Vintage Weekend is an annual rally for vintage, veteran and classic vehicles held in the Historic West Yorkshire Town of Hebden Bridge, in the heart of the South Pennines.

SCOTTISH: Scottish Alvis Weekend. Based at Airth Castle Hotel near Falkirk. The Sunday will be at Callendar House and Park in Falkirk.

Sunday 12th August
NORTHERN: MG Northern Day, Bewerley Park, Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire. HG3 5HQ - The largest MG show in the North and once again they have extended a warm welcome to the Northern Section of the Alvis Owners Club. Pateley Bridge is a small market town, well worth a visit, and the town centre is adjacent to the Show Ground. For several years they have given us a very prominent display area within the show arena although, if there are enough Alvises, we can have a Club stand. There are stalls and catering on site.

Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th August
NORTHERN: Passion for Power, Tatton Park Vintage and Classic Car show. Tatton Park, Knutsford, WA16 6QN. One of the UK’s most popular Classic Car events with over 90 Classic and performance car Clubs attending and over 300 private entries. Large Autojumble and over 250 trade stands. A full weekend event, hosted by our previous Northern Secretary Alan and his wife Diane. This is a very popular event for all our South Lancashire and Cheshire Members. This Large show goes from strength to strength every year, having an enormous and diverse amount of vintage and classic cars on display. At this show we have our own club area to display our cars.

NORTHERN: Vintage by the sea - The Midland Hotel, Marine Rd, Morecambe, Lancashire LA4 4BU. A celebration of all things Vintage: cars, live music, fashion etc. As voted the best vintage event in the world by the Guardian Newspaper. The fantastic setting of Morecambe’s seafront provides the backdrop that transforms into a multi-venue playground where, visitors can learn the dances, take in specially curated live performances, ogle over vintage vehicles or take advantage of the decade’s specific hair and beauty makeovers. MIDLAND and NORTHERN: - Hartington Show, near Buxton, Derbyshire - High Fields, Hall Bank, Hartington. SK17 0AT. An opportunity for a joint meeting between Midland and Northern Alvis enthusiasts, arrive from 9.30am. A great country show. Vintage Tractors, Stationary Engines, Vintage Lorries, Cars & Steam Engines.

Wednesday 12th to Wednesday 19th September
SCOTTISH: A 7-day tour of Ireland has been planned for us by the Irish Tourism Group. In outline it is Cairnryan ferry to Belfast, Dublin, Dungarvan, Killarney – 2 nights, Galway – 2 nights, Dublin, Belfast – ferry. Roughly 150 miles per day, total 1100 miles.

SOUTH EAST: Alvis Day In 2018 your regional Committee will be offering you a different experience from recent years when we have enjoyed being the guests of a number of beautiful stately piles in the South East of England. SOUTH WEST: CASTLE COMBE AUTUMN CLASSIC: The AOC has a stand again this year for 6 cars, but there is plenty of additional circuit-side parking for the 'right' vehicles anyway. For 2018 'Combe' is celebrating 50 years of the Ford GT40 & 65 years since Stirling Moss last competed at the circuit. The usual sun-rise to sun-set day packed with track action, paddock access, hundreds of cars in the 'classics only' car parks and Club Avenue. New for 2018 a trade village. Restaurant, bar, snack-shacks on site. There is no seating around the circuit though, just leaning posts, so bring a camping chair if you want to rest the pins during the day. Further details at

SOUTH WEST: "Remembering Maurice Harvey" Meet 1030am. for coffee at The White Hart Inn, St Keverne, TR12 6ND. At 11.30am. we pay our respects at the Harvey Memorial, 12 noon, return to pub for lunch, then at 2pm, join the Alvis Group drive down to the cove to view the ocean, then have tea or an ice-cream at Roskilley’s.

Friday 12th and Sunday 14th October
NORTHERN: North Yorkshire England at War Weekend Every October, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway recaptures the spirit of the Second World War for a whole weekend. It is an annual tribute to the men and women who kept Britain's railways running throughout the war. The weekend begins with the ceremonial flag raising on Friday, and continues until it is lowered again on Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of skilled re-enactors help create the authentic atmosphere that has earned it an international reputation for authenticity. Accommodation will be available at Gisborough Hall (further details to follow) and the cars will be parked at Grosmont Station, the RAF base.
