The Alvis Owner Club caters for all Alvis car and military vehicle owners and enthusiasts. It is a very active club, running a variety of social and gently competitive events all over the UK, and some overseas. Members are to be found around the world and this web site is one of the ways they keep in touch with the Club. Information on the site is necessarily restricted, and the author apologises for any omissions or inaccuracies, which are his responsibility alone. He hopes you enjoy your visit and are left in no doubt of the heroic scale of the contribution of the small firm of Alvis to Britain's motoring heritage. The site was written and compiled by Robin Gilbert, with help and encouragement from Edgar Shields, Arthur Fairburn and others.

SW&W Picnic
(Omitted from May Calendar)
South West & Wales Section AOC Picnic at Lacock Abbey, near Bath on Sunday 20th July 2008. This wonderful event from the 1990ies is being revived again. Period dress and wind-up gramophones encouraged, but not essential. Arrive from 11.00am onwards at the beautiful National Trust village of Lacock, so often the setting for period dramas, and park in the old Village Pound, a pretty walled grass enclosure right in the heart of the village, next door to the ancient Red Lion pub and the tea shop. Enjoy your picnic in these sylvan surroundings or call into the pub for a good lunch. It is an excellent and safe place to park our cars, not too big so as to be unfriendly but big enough to easily accommodate us. Meet your friends, look at the cars or walk around the village, visit the Fox Talbot museum opposite The Pound, Lacock Abbey itself or the ancient and unspoilt church. National Trust membership will get you free entry to the Abbey, Museum & grounds. All AOC members or those interested in Alvis cars welcome. Site updated 14th May 2008. The Webmaster had the faithful 12/70 DHC out for the FBHVC 'Drive It Day' run organised by his local Highland Classic Motor Club. It was a brilliant sunny day but very cold, so cold indeed that oil pressure hot was about 10 psi above what it usually is and even driven hard up a steep hill the water temperature never exceeded 75 degrees and the Kenlowe remained unused. A splendid photo of the WM driving the car appeared on the front cover of the Club newsletter. This pleased him, but not as much as a comment inside from one of the other participants in what the WM regards as modern car that being "pushed all the way by an Alvis" had really made his day!
At the risk of stirring up further discussion, well actually to encourage it, the Webmaster reminds his readership, if they exist, that it is almost always possible to identify 'who saved the car'. That is the person who persevered with repairs and overhauls when it was uneconomic to do so and kept the car in service when it would have made financial sense to scrap it or run it into the ground. This test can be applied to most of our cars and WM is proud to have done this with more than one Alvis. The logic could be applied decades ago just as it can now and the Webmaster salutes the late Donald Suttie and the late Gilbert Keech but for whose disregard of logic FS 1288 and EUU 654 would not be with him to enjoy today. "Throw the body away and build a special" would have been anathema to these gentlemen.

This is being based on records held by various individuals within the Club but it needs to be kept as up to date as possible.
